Types of Home Remodeling Services

Did you know there isn’t just one but various types of home remodeling companies? And amongst each, there is a plethora of different services that they offer. Your remodeling costs are vastly affected by the kind of service you seek, the quality of work, and their business model. Thus, it is imperative that you consider various options and choose a service based on your needs while keeping in mind your budget for the project.

This is a list of some different types of services and the projects they undertake:

  • Residential remodeling services – They often refer to themselves as Kitchen and Bath remodeling services. They are more experienced in ‘building’ than ‘designing’ and are cheaper and require less time and staff. These contractors do not prefer projects that involve structural changes, such as taking down a wall. They will usually work in specific areas of your home only.
  • Design-build remodeling services – These are general contractors who are responsible for architecture, design, and construction of significant home remodeling projects. They are usually established corporations with different departments for design, architecture, accounting, etc. They typically have their own installers or may subcontract the work as well. Such firms are at the top of the remodeling business.
  • Home addition services – These are general contractors who may or may not offer design services to clients. Some of these services are just unit builders who will prefer to build rather than design. These are price effective to hire when you already have the plans or the services of an architect or designer at your disposal.
  • Restoration services – These are contractors who are hired to rebuild a home after a natural calamity like fire, flood, etc. They are skilled remodelers with vast experience of working with insurance companies. They do not upgrade the home but restore it to how it was before the damage. Many kitchen remodeling companies do not work on such projects as it is a different business model and requires various formalities and paperwork.

  • Service or Specific trade contractors – These can also be considered emergency service contractors, such as plumbing contractors, bathroom remodeling contractors, etc. These also include other contractors who aren’t emergency contractors like tile setters (who only retile the floor but don’t remodel the entire area), roofers, etc. You may even buy the building materials yourself and hire such trade-specific contractors and remodel your home on your own.
